Cookout- A New Restaurant in Town

Cookout is a chain of fast food restaurants that recently opened a new location here in Blacksburg. The restaurant specializes in southern style food such as barbeque, cheeseburgers, fries, and hush puppies. I didn't even know about Cookout until I visited their Radford location last weekend. One of my friends in Radford told me how great it was and informed me that he had ate at one of the restaurants in North Carolina. After a typical college Friday night, we needed to replenish our stomachs on Saturday. Upon entering the Cookout store, my initial reaction was very positive. They decorated the inside of the walls to make customers feel like they are inside of a log cabin style building. I was also impressed by the large number of customers and packed parking lot. I thought we would have to wait for as much as half and hour when I first saw the line of customers. My thoughts were completely wrong. The line moved incredibly fast and I got my food within three minutes of ordering. One of the main products Cookout prides themselves in is there full size combo for 5 dollars. The combo ends up coming out to $5.12 in Radford but its still much cheaper than a comparable amount of food at other fast food restaurants. The combo includes a large drink, a main entree, and two sides. I ordered a cheeseburger, fries, and onion rings. I was very impressed with the burger, it had a unique charbroiled taste which was very appetizing. I figured the sides would be very small, however the amount of fries and onion rings added together was more than a large side of fries at McDonalds. My overall impression of Cookut was very good. The service was top notch and the food was tasty at a great price. According to their website, Cookout originated in Greensboro, North Carolina. The majority of their restaurants are in North Carolina but they appear to be rapidly expanding into Virginia. I also read an article the Collegiate Times wrote about the Blacksburg location. The article basically said that the restaurant was tasty, but not anything to get too excited over. I haven't gotten a chance to visit the Blacksburg location, but from my experience with the Cookout in Radford, I would recommended the restaurant to anyone.

  1. I'm a big fan of Cookout too. I've been to the ones in North Carolina, and I was excited that one was coming to Blacksburg. I think the one here is delicious. You'll have to see for yourself.
